Learn About the Pesticides We Use at Lawn Matters

At Lawn Matters, transparency is part of how we do business. We know that inviting a lawn care team onto your property means trusting us with the spaces where your family and pets spend their time — and we take that responsibility seriously. The questions below address some of the most common concerns homeowners have about the products we use, so you can feel informed and confident every time we visit your property.

How Safe Are the Pesticides We Use?

When handled and applied correctly, according to label directions and established industry standards, professional pesticides do not pose a meaningful risk to people, non-target organisms, or the environment. Every pesticide used by professional lawn care companies like Lawn Matters has undergone rigorous safety testing and met the standards required for registration by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Will Your Products Hurt My Pets?

When applied according to label instructions by trained professionals, pesticide treatments are not harmful to dogs or cats. Before any pesticide can be registered for use, it must undergo extensive testing that specifically evaluates potential effects on non-target organisms, including household pets. Part of that process involves determining safe re-entry intervals, the amount of time that should pass before pets return to a treated area. Our team will always communicate those timeframes clearly so you know exactly when it's safe for your animals to return to the lawn.

How Can Your Products Affect Pests, But Not People or Pets?

This comes down to a well-established principle in medicine and toxicology: the dose makes the difference. The concentration of product required to effectively control insect populations is far lower than any amount that would affect mammals like humans or pets. Insects and mammals have fundamentally different physiologies, and professional pesticides are formulated to exploit those differences. Exposure to a treated lawn does not, by itself, constitute a health risk, particularly when treatments are applied at the correct rates by trained professionals and appropriate re-entry guidelines are followed.

Can Repeated Low-Level Pesticide Exposure Cause Cancer?

No. As applied by professional lawn care companies, pesticides are not known to cause cancer. Cancer risk potential is one of the specific areas evaluated during the EPA's registration process, and no specialty pesticide currently on the market has been determined to cause cancer in humans. Only products that have satisfied the EPA's rigorous testing requirements are permitted to be registered and used commercially. The oversight built into this process is specifically designed to prevent products with unacceptable health risk profiles from reaching the hands of applicators or consumers.

Can Your Pesticides Contaminate Groundwater?

The likelihood of properly applied lawn pesticides reaching groundwater is very low. Healthy, well-managed turf acts as a natural buffer, absorbing and filtering surface applications before they can move into the soil at a depth that would affect water supplies. Research conducted in areas with the highest concentrations of pesticide use has found minimal to no detectable presence of lawn-applied pesticides in well water, and there are no known reported cases of adverse health effects from pesticide-contaminated groundwater linked to professional lawn care applications. Responsible application practices and proper product selection are key factors in keeping that risk negligible.
